How to Prepare for a Kitchen Design Appointment

One of the most exciting aspects of buying a new home is choosing the fixtures and fittings. However, when it comes to the kitchen, if you’re after a whole new look it can also be daunting. That’s where a design appointment comes into its own!

Kitchen plan 2When we create custom kitchens for our clientele, one of our aims here at Aspire is to ensure that our customers know and love exactly what they’re getting. The design appointment is the first step in creating your dream kitchen, so here’s how to get the most out of it:

Inspiration, Inspiration, Inspiration

You’ve probably already got a good idea about what you want, but it doesn’t hurt to add a little research into your inspiration. Websites and apps such as Pinterest, Houzz and Channel 4’s Scrapbook are great ways of creating mood boards and getting an idea about the overall look and feel you’re after.

Think about what you want from the kitchen, and what those in your family need out of the space, too. Do you want a room big enough to use as a family hang-out space? Are you big entertainers? Do you enjoy cake making or creating culinary masterpieces? The answers to these questions will point you in the right direction.

Be prepared to be flexible, too. A good kitchen design company will suggest improvements to make your new room more workable, without losing your sense of style.

Measure Up

You may want to take rough measurements before your kitchen design appointment, as this will give you an idea of what you can achieve from the space. If you’re keeping any of your current appliances, measure the height, width and depth of these too, so that you know what you have to play with.

Of course, any kitchen design company offering custom kitchens will take exact measurements during the design appointment, but there’s no point in having your heart set on a large range cooker or an American double-door fridge-freezer if you just haven’t got the space!

Be Prepared

If you already have tile, flooring or paint samples, or drawings from your builder if you’re extending, make sure you have these to hand for your appointment, as they will give your kitchen design company something to base their designs around.

Enjoy!

Kitchen plan 4The easiest part of the design appointment is enjoying it! Here at Aspire, we take our time talking to our customers, and we don’t try to rush you into a decision, as you may find from a bigger kitchen design company.

Making your house your home should be fun, and we want to help you create your dream kitchen. We’ll work together to make sure that the choices you make are practical, stylish and in line with your wants and needs. All you need to do is enjoy the process!
